UPDATE: The shooter has been identified as Steven Dewayne Haizlit, 61, a City of Winston-Salem employee, per WGHP-TV. He was reportedly killed in a gunfight with police. His motive is not known.
Terry Lee Cobb Jr., 48, a fellow employee, was killed in the gunfire and police believe he was the suspect’s primary target.
Winston-Salem Police Sgt. Cameron Stewart Sloan was injured during the shooting and has undergone surgery, but is now recovering at the hospital. The second injured victim was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two people were killed and two more were injured Friday morning in a shooting at a municipal building in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The two victims were reported to be city employees, Winston-Salem City Manager Lee Garrity said. The injuries of the two others who were shot are non-life-threatening. There is no ongoing threat, city spokesman Ed McNeal said.
