Former Maryland Police Officer Charged with Raping Woman After Detaining Her

A former police officer in Fairmount Heights, Maryland, has been arrested for raping a woman after detaining her, WSET-TV reports.

Martique Vanderpool allegedly detained a woman after a traffic stop and then raped her while she was in custody in September of this year.

Vanderpool is accused of coercing the woman by threatening to jail her and impound her vehicle. He had originally pulled over the woman and instructed her to get out of the vehicle because she did not have a driver’s license in her possession.

At the police station after she was taken into custody, documents show that the former officer asked the victim “so what are we doing to do about this?” and then told her that she could either have sex with him or get arrested and go to jail.
