Officials say that dozens of people have been arrested in two maritime smuggling incidents off the coast of San Diego County, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Border Patrol say that they arrested 34 people after two boats were found off the coast of Point Loma and San Clemente in San Diego County.
21 people, whose ages ranged from 19 to 59, were found aboard the first boat and taken into custody. Four of those people have been identified as suspected smugglers, including two from the U.S.
The U.S. Coast Guard was called into investigate the second boat, which eventually attempted to flee to the T-Street Beach, where 14 people got out and attempted to flee from Border Patrol agents, but 13 were apprehended.
All 34 people arrested were taken into custody by the Department of Homeland Security.
