Man Killed After Leaving Anti-Violence Meeting

A man in Washington, D.C. was shot and killed while leaving an anti-violence meeting on Friday afternoon, NBC Washington reported.

Clarence Venable, 40, was shot around 2 p.m. after leaving a meeting of the group Cure the Streets, who call themselves “violence interrupters,” according to police. The motive for the killing is unknown at this time.

D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine told NBC, “I want to tell you, the violence interrupters, the community outreach folks, they are committed to reducing violence in our city, and yes, they are going to be hurt, but they are going to be even more committed tomorrow and the days that follow, because we can do better by our community and we’re going to work hard to make it better.”
