A flight out of Los Angeles International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday, KABC-TV reports.
An engine on the plane was seen with flames and smoke pouring out shortly after the flight’s takeoff from LAX, according to witnesses. The Boeing 777 had been en-route to the Philippines when a mechanical error was reported.
The FAA says that the plane has been able to land without incident and passengers were seen evacuating from the aircraft. Based on video, FAA officials said it appeared to be a “classic compressor stall.”
It has not been stated what airline the plane belonged to.
