An FBI official is reportedly under criminal investigation after they allegedly altered a document in the 2016 Russian probe, CNN reports.
CNN, citing several people briefed on the matter, reports that the official is under investigation for altering a document related to the 2016 surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser.
The finding is expected to be part of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s review of the FBI’s effort to obtain warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign aide. That report is expected to released next month.
The identity or rank of the FBI employee has not been disclosed and it is unclear if they are still employed by the federal government. No charges have been filed publicly at this time.
