At least five more deaths have been linked to mold infections at Seattle Children’s Hospital, adding to the previously reported numbers, KOMO-TV reports.
Seattle Children’s Hospital CEO Dr. Jeff Sperring says that the five deaths have been linked to mold infection in the hospital’s operating rooms from 2001 to 2014. Two others were sickened but did not die.
The Aspergillus mold outbreak was likely caused by the air handling systems in the hospital’s operating rooms that failed to remove the mold.
Officials had previously announced that seven infections and one death were connected to the mold since summer 2018.
