Minnesota Twins prospect Ryan Costello has reportedly been found dead at the age of 23, CNN reports.
Costello was found dead in Auckland, New Zealand, after he has arrived last week to play for the Auckland Tuatara, a team in the Australian Baseball League.
The team stated in an announcement earlier today that preliminary results indicate that the 23-year-old died of natural causes.
The Twins also released a statement, saying: “We are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ryan Costello. The entire Twins organization sends our most sincere condolences to Ryan’s family, friends, coaches, and teammates.”
Costello, from Wethersfield, Connecticut, was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 31st round of the 2017 MLB draft after playing at Central Connecticut State University.
He split time between the Single-A Fort Myers Miracle and Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos during the 2019 season.
