A police officer was killed and two others were critically injured in a car crash on the FDR Drive in New York City early Saturday, police said.
The accident occurred when a 25-year-old man driving north on the FDR lost control of his black 2016 Lexus, hitting a barrier beneath a pedestrian footbridge, police said.
The driver, who is believed to be an off-duty NYPD officer, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One of the injured passengers is believed to be a New York City firefighter.
One man, 25, sustained body trauma, police said. Sources said a woman, also 25, lost a leg in the crash. Both were taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and are now stable.
