A Russian university professor has been arrested after police say he was found with a woman’s arms inside his rucksack, per CNN.
An investigation into Oleg Sokolov was launched after police pulled him out of the Moika River in St. Petersburg and found severed arms inside his bag.
Sokolov, who teaches at St. Petersburg State University, was found with a pair of severed arms and a nonlethal handgun inside the backpack. He is currently being treated for hypothermia in the hospital.
Officials have not provided any further details into the incident, but an investigation is ongoing.
In June 2003, then-French President Jacques Chirac awarded Sokolov the Order of Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest decoration, for his studies into French military and Napoleon Bonaparte.
