Hockey commentator Don Cherry has reportedly been fired after he referred to immigrants as “you people” while on air.
Cherry, 85, was fired by Canadian broadcasting company Rogers Sportsnet on Monday following the incident.
In a television rant, Cherry referred to immigrants as “you people” while also adding, “you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey.”
His comments came as he claimed that immigrants were not honoring the country’s dead soldier, saying that he did not see immigrants wearing poppies to honor the country’s fallen on Remembrance Day, which is observed on Monday.
Prior to today’s firing, Cherry had provided commentary following the first intermission of “Hockey Night in Canada” for several years.
