An 11-year-old was hospitalized Monday after unknowingly overdosing on heroin, according to Delaware State Police. The child went into cardiac arrest Monday night at a home in Millsboro. Police collected 30 small bags of heroin, several of which were in the victim’s pocket.
The 11-year-old was taken to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital. The child’s condition was not immediately available. Police said the 11-year-old got the heroin from a friend at school. The victim’s friend found an Altoids container in their father’s car. The friend opened the container without knowing heroin was inside and gave the substance to the 11-year-old, police said.
Police arrested the friend’s father, 31-year-old Gilbert Dickinson, on multiple drug charges, including three counts of unlawfully dealing with a child. Dickerson was arraigned and released on a $10,500.00 unsecured bond.
