At least two people were injured in a shooting near a mosque in Bayonne, France, according to the Telegraph.
The gunman, an 84 year old man who ran for office in 2015, was arrested near his home a short time later.
According to The Telegraph, “Local officials say the suspect was trying to set fire to the mosque door when he shot the two men, aged 78 and 74, who had tried to stop his attempt. One was reportedly hit in the chest and remains in a serious, but not critical condition.
“It is believed that the incident also involved a small explosion, understood to be from a petrol can set on fire near the place of worship. The suspect reportedly hurled an incendiary device into the mosque and then fled in his car, where a gas canister was later found.”
