Former longtime WESH-TV news anchor Wendy Chioji has reportedly died at the age of 57.
Chioji reportedly died earlier this week following a battle with cancer. She had first been diagnosed with cancer several years ago, chronicling it in 2001 on the WESH news site. However, in 2013, she was diagnosed with a fast-growing cancer of the thymus gland.
Chioji retired from the news in 2008 in order to pursue her passion of physical fitness and athletics. She won an Emmy award as part of a team that put together a WESH-TV news report titled “A Heroin Emergency” and the duPont Columbia award for coverage of the Shuttle Columbia disaster.
