Law enforcement officials say that investigators have been unable to find the cause of the deadly Santa Barbara boat fire that left dozens of people dead.
The investigation, which ended Friday after two weeks, reportedly was unable to determine what sparked the blaze that eventually caused the deaths of 34 people on-board. Pieces of the vessel have since been sent to labs for additional testing. The investigators’ findings have not been released publicly and the official spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The fire is the subject of a federal criminal investigation, led by the Coast Guard, the FBI, and the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles, as well as a safety inquiry by the NTSB.
