Veteran reporter Sander Vanocur, the last surviving participant in the 1960 debate between John Kennedy and Richard Nixon, has died at the age of 91.
Vanocur, who was one of four panelists who questioned the candidates at the debate, was also NBC’s White House correspondent during the Kennedy administration. He was also interviewed Sen. Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles in 1968, hours before his assassination.
Vanocur would later moderate the 1984 vice presidential debate between Vice President George H.W. Bush and Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (D-N.Y.), the first to feature a female candidate.
