UPDATE: Vazquez has now reportedly been charged with several felony charges, including statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors, as well as misdemeanor indecent assault, per KDKA-TV.
Pittsburgh Pirates’ All-Star closer Felipe Vazquez has been arrested on charges of solicitation of a child.
Vasquez reportedly met the 15-year-old girl when she was at PNC Park in Pittsburgh when she was 13. The investigation into the star reliever was launched in August after police got a tip that he had a reported sexual relationship with the girl, who was in Florida. Authorities say the alleged victim, now 15, had gotten text messages from Vázquez saying they would meet up after baseball season.
An incident report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Vazquez and the victim met at PNC Park, where they took pictures outside the bullpen. He has been charged computer pornography – solicitation of a child and one count of providing obscene material to minors.
During sentencing, the judge denied Vazquez bail, adding that additional charges may be filed against him.
