A Republican lawmaker from Texas told Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke that his own “AR” is ready for him after O’Rourke said he would support a gun-control plan to recall assault-style rifles from Americans. O’Rourke said he supported a plan to confiscate weapons “designed to kill people on a battlefield.”
“Hell yes we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” O’Rourke said. After the debate, Briscoe Cain, who represents a district in the Texas statehouse, tweeted at O’Rourke, “My AR is ready for you Robert Francis,” a reference to the candidate’s given name.
Cain soon deleted the tweet, but not before O’Rourke took a screenshot of it and replied to him.
This is a death threat, Representative. Clearly, you shouldn’t own an AR-15—and neither should anyone else. pic.twitter.com/jsiZmwjMDs
