A Houston police officer is in serious condition and one suspect is dead after a crime spree came to an end in a shootout just a mile away from the Democratic presidential debate Thursday night.
The injured officer, 29, was still in surgery at Memorial Hermann hospital Friday morning after being shot multiple times during a shootout, just a mile south of Texas Southern University.
The victim was identified as a six-year veteran with the Houston police department, the Houston Chronicle reported. The incident began with a carjacking. Police chased two suspects on foot. One was taken into custody while the other suspect shot the officer. The shooter was killed by police at the scene.
