A U.S. Air Force veteran has reportedly died covered in ant bites at a VA nursing home in Atlanta, Georgia.
74-year-old Joel Marrable, an Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam War, was staying at the Eagles’ Nest Community Living Center, part of the Atlanta VA Medical Center, when his daughter visited him a week before he died. His daughter said that when she visited him, she found ants crawling throughout his room, with a worker telling her that they believe he was dead at the time due to the bites.
Following that incident, workers cleaned him and his room, only for the ants to return. Only then did they relocate him to another room, where he then died. Atlanta VA spokesman Greg Kendall told USA TODAY on Friday that the facility has launched a “top-to-bottom review of this situation to ensure it never happens again.”
