BREAKING: Revered Singer-Songwriter Dies 

Revered folk singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston has reportedly died at the age of 58.

Johnston, who was raised in West Virginia before moving to Austin, Texas, cultivated over 17 albums during his career, with many of his songs going on to be covered by the likes of The Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, and Beck, reportedly died due to a heart attack. His works were also often praised by Kurt Cobain and Tom Waits.

Johnston had reportedly been in poor health recently after having a fall and requiring hospitalization. He also had a history of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He released his first album, Songs of Pain, in 1980, and got his commercial breakthrough three years later with Hi, How Are You.
