Former Florida Gators football star Neiron Ball has reportedly died at the age of 27.
Ball had been diagnosed with a rare brain disease characterized by tangled blood vessels in the brain. It reportedly affects less than 1% of the population. The condition was discovered after he collapsed during practice in 2011, requiring emergency surgery.
Ball managed to return to football, staring for the Gators before being drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2015. He retired the year after his rookie season after suffering an injury.
In 2018, Ball reportedly suffered a brain aneurysm and was placed in a medically induced coma. His sister said Ball’s health declined considerably, describing him as a quadriplegic who could only communicate using his eyes.
