At least eight protestors blocked areas in downtown New Orleans were arrested Monday as they called for the release of a man from ICE custody.
The protestors say that Yoel Alonzo Leal is being held by ICE, who they say have denied the man, from getting adequate medical treatment for a tumor. ICE New Orleans spokesperson Bryan Cox says Leal already has had his time in court and a federal immigration judge has ordered his removal from the country.
The order was reportedly upheld on appeal last mont and ICE is continuing with his deportation.
Cox also stated any claims Leal or any other detained by ICE being denied necessary medical treatment is simply baseless.
