The FBI says that they have launched an investigation into whether a criminal violation occurred prior to the California boat fire that left 34 people dead.
The FBI and the Coast Guard are both reportedly working on the investigation. The investigation is seeking to determine whether legal protocol and procedure was followed by the company operating the boat. Agents searched Truth Aquatics’ offices in Santa Barbara and the company’s two remaining boats on Sunday.
34 people died when the Conception burned and sank before dawn on Sept. 2. They were sleeping in a cramped bunkroom below the main deck and their escape routes were blocked by fire.
