BREAKING: Several Hospitals and Over 70 Nursing Homes Evacuated on Florida’s East Coast

Over 70 nursing homes and seven hospitals have been evacuated as officials prepare for Hurricane Dorian to impact the east coast of Florida.

Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Mary Mayhew told reporters that four of the long-term care facilities were evacuated because they didn’t have emergency generators and access to backup power as required by law. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in many place along the coastline as the storm is expected to bring storm surge, damaging winds and power outages to the area.

After residents of a Broward County nursing home died following Hurricane Irma, the state put in place backup-power requirements for nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
