Over a Dozen Arrested by Border Patrol in Connection to Arizona Human Smuggling

Border Patrol officials in Yuma, Arizona, say that they have arrested 16 people in connection to human smuggling attempts at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A white Ford Expedition occupied by seven people was referred at an immigration checkpoint to further inspection, at which point agents determined five people inside to be in the country illegally. In a second incident, a Dodge Ram van was referred for a secondary inspection, when agents discovered seven out of the nine occupants of the vehicle were present in the U.S. illegally.

12 people were arrested on immigration-related charges, while the other four were charged with human smuggling.
