A Catholic priest from Pennsylvania has been arrested after he reportedly stole church money to use for personal travel and dates from the gay dating app Grindr.
Father Joseph McLoone, 56, was charged with felony theft and other related crimes after depositing around $100,000 into a personal account. He reportedly used the funds between 2011 and 2018 to fund his personal travels and to pay for “personal relationships” he had with other men he had met through the app.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia began investigating McLoone in early 2018 and subsequently placed him on administrative leave. He later resigned. McLoone’s lawyer claims that the case should not have been brought by law enforcement.
