Russian Government Says They Flew Nuclear-Capable Bombers in Far-East Region Facing Alaska

The Russian government says that they flew nuclear-capable bombers in a far-eastern region facing Alaska as part of a training exercise to demonstrate their ability to base the aircraft around 20 minutes away from the U.S.

The Tupolev TU-160 strategic bomber, nicknamed the White Swan in Russia, is a supersonic aircraft capable of carrying up to 12 short-range nuclear missiles. It also has the ability to fly 12,000 km (7,500 miles) non-stop without refueling.

The Russian government newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta stated on its website that the flights showed the military’s ability to base nuclear bombers within 20 minutes flight time from the U.S., which it said was just over 372 miles away.
