Professional cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht of Belgium has reportedly died at age 22 following a crash in the 3rd stage of the Tour de Pologne in Poland.
Lambrecht reportedly struck his head on a concrete structure after crashing, and was knocked out by the collision. Emergency personnel worked to resuscitate him at the scene and he was eventually transport to an area hospital before dying during an emergency surgery.
It is unclear what caused the crash, but weather may have played a factor. Lambrecht was considered a rising star in the sport after winning the U23 Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2017 and had been placing high in several other competitions.
