Eight people have been shot near a school in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, according to NBC Chicago.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning at about 3:43 a.m. when a suspect shot eight people, killing a 33-year-old man who was shot in the chest.
Of the other victims, they were believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Three remain hospitalized and four have been released.
According to NBC Chicago, “The shooting was one of several involving multiple victims during the morning hours on Sunday. A total of seven people were shot near a playground in the city’s Douglas Park neighborhood, according to police. During that shooting, a person in a black Camaro opened fire at a group of people, and some of the victims returned fire before the gunman fled the scene in the vehicle, according to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.”
More than 43 people have been shot in Chicago since Friday evening.
