New York Woman Accused of Searching Obituaries and Burglarizing Homes of Families Attending Funerals

A New York woman has been arraigned after she allegedly searched obituaries and then burglarized homes of families attending funerals.

27-year-old Latonia Shelecia Stewart faces burglary, grand larceny and other charges for the series of burglaries across Westchester County, which began in the fall of 2017 and ended in the spring of 2018. She was given a 22-count indictment for the crime spree, in which she would reportedly scan obituaries to see who would be out of town for funerals and then steal from their homes while they were gone.

Some of the items were reportedly found during her arrest in May of 2018, but the total value of the items recovered is not known. Stewart is to appear in court again on August 13th.
