Shelter-in-Place Ordered After Massive Explosion and Fire at ExxonMobil plant in Texas; Dozens Reportedly Injured

Residents have been ordered to shelter-in-place following an explosion and fire at an ExxonMobil plant in Baytown, Texas.

At least 37 people were injured in the incident, although none are considered to be life-threatening. Most of the injuries involved minor, first-degree-type burns, with the victims treated at a local clinic.

The fire is in a unit that contains polypropylene material and ExxonMobil has asked that the shelter-in-place order be issued west of the plant and south of the Texas Spur 330 freeway “out of an abundance of caution.”
