Miami Dolphins Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti has reportedly died at the age of 78.
Buoniconti, who played 14 seasons with the Dolphins and the then-Boston Patriots, helped Miami to the Super Bowl three straight years, winning two of them. He was considered to be a key role-player in the “no-name defense” in the 1970s.
Buoniconti pledged to donate his brain to CTE research in 2017. The NFL legend and his son Marc, who was paralyzed from the shoulders down as a result of a football injury, also spearheaded the establishment of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, a leading research and treatment centers for spinal cord injuries.
