A British man who was accused of shaking a newborn baby so hard that it went blind has been sentenced to 30 months in jail.
Steven Macaulay, 30, was left alone with the infant in 2017. At some point while the child was in his car, the man shook it violently. This led to the infant’s retinas becoming detached, although they have reportedly healed since. The infant was reportedly blinded by the incident and suffered serious head injuries, but has since shown signs of recovering its eyesight.
Macaulay admitted to the crime, but stated that he had been suffering from mental illness at the time of the incident.
