Longtime Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau has reportedly died at the age of 99.
Morgenthau died Sunday at Lenox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side after a short illness, according to his wife. He served as Manhattan District Attorney from over three decades, spanning from 1975 to 2009. Prior to that, he also served as U.S. Attorney for Manhattan and the Southern District of New York from 1962 to 1970.
Mogenthau’s last public appearance was June 25, when he gave a speech at the Police Athletic League’s annual dinner at The Pierre hotel, Lucinda Franks Morgenthau said. He was hospitalized two days after the event.
