The remains of a person found behind a grocery store cooler in Iowa have been identified as those of an employee who went missing 10 years ago.
The remains were recently identified as those of Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada, a former employee who had been reported missing November 28, 2009. Investigators reportedly used the man’s parent’s DNA to confirm the identity of the former employee, whose remains were found in January.
He is thought to have fallen into the 18-inch gap between the back of the cooler and a wall, where he became trapped, after running to the store after becoming upset. He had been reportedly been acting irrationally due to the medication he was taking. Noise from the coolers’ compressors may have concealed any attempts to call for help, according to police.
There were no signs of trauma and the death is believed to have been an accident.
