British Airways has announced that it is cancelling all flights to Cairo, Egypt, for the next week as a “security precaution,” according to BBC News.
According to British Airways, “We constantly review our security arrangements at all our airports around the world, and have suspended flights to Cairo for seven days as a precaution to allow for further assessment.
“The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our priority, and we would never operate an aircraft unless it was safe to do so.”
The decision was apparently a surprise for many who were getting ready to board a flight from London to Cairo, as it was announced at the last minute that the flight had been cancelled.
On Friday, the UK Foreign office released the following travel advisory for Britons traveling to Cairo:
“There’s a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation. Additional security measures are in place for flights departing from Egypt to the UK.”
