Officials in New York have begun their search for the person who they believe stole a bald eagle from the Quoque Wildlife Refuge.
Surveillance video shows a man in a baseball cap coming into the enclosure where a bald eagle named “Sam” had been living for the past 30 years. Sam one has one wing after he had suffered a gunshot wound that forced his other wing to be amputated.
Wildlife officials say it would have been very difficult to remove the bald eagle from the enclosure without a struggle. “He’s a very strong bird. We don’t even handle him because it stresses him out,” says Marisa Nelson who cared for Sam. “He likes his space and we are very sad and we are very concerned about this eagle.”
