A major power outage has effected Con Edison customers on Staten Island in New York, according to CBS New York. At its peak, over 2,500 people were without power
Over 1,500 people were without power as of shortly after 2 a.m. eastern time on Wednesday morning, with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio saying the power could remain off throughout the night.
Councilman Steven Matteo said that a circuit breaker smoking caused the outage, and that Con Edison was on scene working to fix the outage.
As of 10:30 p.m. eastern time, Con Edison is estimating that power will be restored at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
UPDATE: Con Edison says power has mostly been restored.
