Detroit Police Commissioner Arrested During Contentious Public Meeting

Detroit Police Commissioner Willie Burton was yanked out of his seat and arrested during a public meeting last night after a chairwoman asked him to stop talking.

Burton was taken into custody by three Detroit police officers after he attempted to call out the Board of Police Commissioners for holding illegal committee meetings that neither he nor the public were allowed to attend. During these meetings, the board reportedly passed a new, controversial facial recognition system.

While in the back of a police car, Burton said he wanted to “let my constituents known I am fighting for them.” A protestor was also arrested during the proceedings.
