Los Angeles Marathon Runner Accused of Cheating Found Dead

A 70-year-old runner who was disqualified from the Los Angeles Marathon was found dead in the Los Angeles River on Thursday.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a report of a body in the river lying in shallow water shortly before 10 a.m. in the Cypress Park area. The cause of death is not suspected to be from drowning, officials said.

Dr. Frank Meza set a record time for his age group in the L.A. Marathon was disqualified after a marathon investigator took a closer look. He says he found a video that shows Meza leaving the course for a period of time.

The marathon disqualified Meza for alleged cheating and awarded the win for the age group to the second finisher. Meza had said he was looking for a bathroom and did not take a short cut.
