A elderly couple in Northwest Florida have been sentenced to jail for their role in an illegal bingo scheme that allowed them to pocket over $5 million.
Larry L. Masino, 69, of Gulf Breeze, and Dixie L. Masino, 66, of Pensacola, illegally conducted bingo games by keeping a substantial amount of the bingo funds for themselves rather than returning all proceeds to players in the form of prizes. The two conducted the operation between 2006 and 2015.
Larry Masino, who is accused of orchestrating the scheme, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised released. His ex-wife Dixie was sentenced to four months of house arrest as a part of a five-year probation term. She reportedly took over the business after Larry was arrested for a separate illegal bingo operation.
The government has already seized more than $1.5 million from the Masinos’ bank accounts and forfeited three properties.
