BREAKING: Bill Requiring Campaigns to Report Any Attempts by Foreign Entities to Influence Elections Blocked in the Senate

Senate Republicans have blocked a vote for a bill that would have required campaigns to report when they become aware of any attempts by foreign nationals to influence an election.

The bill would have required campaigns to report to the FBI and FEC when they received the assistance from foreign entities. The bill was offered to be passed by unanimous consent, but was rejected by Sen. Marsha Blackburn.

Blackburn stated that the requirements of the bill went “overboard.”

“The UC that was presented is overboard, and this is something that should be done in a thoughtful way. It should be done in a bipartisan way,” Blackburn said.

The author of the bill, Sen. Mark Warner countered, saying that her reading of the bill was not accurate. “The only thing that would have to be reported is if an agent of a foreign government or a foreign national offered something that was already prohibited,” he added.

The bill is expected to be offered for consideration again.
