A House panel has advanced a bill that would raise the level of funding given to the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
The bill passed by an unanimous voice vote. It will now go to be considered on the floor of the entire House. The fund’s administrator had stated in February that it lacked the funding to pay all of the claims given to it. Under the new law, the coverage for victims of 9/11 would extend all the way through 2090.
The previous law had only covered the victims through 2020, after a 2015 renewal gave an additional $4.6 billion to the fund.
