BREAKING: New York Lawmakers Propose Legalizing Prostitution

Lawmakers in New York have introduced the Stop Violence in the Sex Trades Acts, which “seeks to amend state statutes in order to decriminalize sex work between consenting adults while upholding existing anti-trafficking laws,” according to The Hill.

One of the sponsors of the bill, state Sen. Julia Salazar, says “sex work is work and should not be criminalized by the state.”

She told BuzzFeed News in an interview that “anything that involved children or coercion are things we feel very strongly need to remain in the penal code.”
