New York City officials say that they have seized at least 46 ice cream trucks in an operation dubbed “Operation Meltdown.”
The operation seeks to impound the trucks, who are notorious for committing traffic violations in the city and then not paying. It was waged on a small group of individuals operating companies that didn’t pay parking violations for nearly a decade. Officials with the city say that around $4.5 million in parking fines have been evaded by the group.
The trucks allegedly ran red lights, parked near fire hydrants and blocked pedestrian walkways, according to the city’s complaint filed last week.
