The House has passed a bill Tuesday that would permanently protect “dreamers” from being deported.
The bill cover around 2 million undocumented immigrants, providing a path to citizenship for all of them. They are under two categories: Dreamers – undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children – as well as certain recipients of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) programs.
The bill, which passed 237-187, is unlikely to pass the GOP-controlled Senate. The White House announced Monday that it “strongly opposes” the measure.
