Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson says that at least 400 homes have been evacuated in the state due to flooding along the Arkansas River.
Historic flooding has led the river to continue to swell, with even more thunderstorms expected in the forecast for much of the state. Hutchinson added that he has directed another $250,000 in state funds toward the flood response.
The river’s expansion has provided a high level of strain on the system of levees protecting many homes along the river. The Arkansas was predicted to crest Wednesday, well above record levels.
