A massive 8.0-magnitude earthquake has struck northern Peru, according to the USGS.
The earthquake was centered 85 km South Southeast of Lagunas, Peru. It was originally reported as a magnitude 7.5, but was soon upgraded to a magnitude 8.0.
The earthquake struck in the middle of the night Sunday morning.
According to the USGS PAGER service, there is a 94 percent chance of fatalities resulting from this earthquake, with a 14% chance of over 100 fatalities.
There is no risk of a tsunami with the earthquake, according to officials.
