BREAKING: Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks Gerrymandering Rulings Requiring New Voting Maps for Ohio and Michigan

The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily blocked rulings from lower courts that had required Michigan and Ohio to redraw their voting maps.

Lower courts had ruled earlier this year that both states would need to redraw their districts, as the existing lines had been determined to have been gerrymandering. The courts had ordered that the redrawing occur prior to the 2020 election.

The Court issued the rulings not as final decisions on the merits of the case, but rather as delays as it considers other gerrymandering cases for North Carolina and Maryland.
